STATEMENT ON REX AIRLINES
I am calling upon REX Airlines to give full disclosure of its trading position, reported corporate governance issues and the apparent boardroom coup that led to the ousting of its chair.
There are 2,000 jobs at stake as well as crucial country airlinks that regional communities simply can’t do without.
Rex has 56 locations that it flies to including many in regional Australia such as Orange, Parkes and Dubbo.
Airlinks between the city and the bush are vital for the survival of our country communities and I am deeply concerned about the impact the potential loss of these routes may have.
I’ve requested an urgent briefing from Catherine King Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government on the crisis and the Government’s proposed course of action.
A government rescue package may be required but the first thing that needs to happen is full disclosure from REX about what’s going on with the company. We need to hear from REX on the double.
To date the only insights our communities have had is through the media and this is simply not good enough.
